At approximately 10:35pm on February 11, 2022 Richmond Fire Department responded to a reported Structure Fire at 2300 Hanover Ave. (William Fox Elementary School). When Engine 12 arrived on scene they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the top floor above the main entrance. Crew worked quickly to attempt an interior attack. A second alarm was stuck at 10:50pm. At 11:09pm all crews were ordered out of the building due to the roof beginning to collapse making the fire attack a defensive fire attack. 11:13pm a third alarm was stuck, sending more units from around the city to respond. This caused mutual aid from Henrico County Division of Fire, Chesterfield County Fire and EMS, and Hanover Fire and EMS to backfill different stations around the city. Finally at 2:44am the 3rd-alarm structure fire was marked under control.
William Fox Elementary School was originally build in 1911, and this fire was a devastation to the community surrounding it.
